The What And Why Of Employment Background Screening
The threat of the criminals present in the society itself is growing vicious day by day. You just cannot trust anyone and give him a job without proper background checks. This is where employment back-ground screening comes into the picture.  The employment background screening is a process using which you can check almost all aspects of the past life of a person. While some people might consider this an invasion of privacy, the fact is that knowledge of these things is necessary in these times.

There are a number of ways to find information about a prospective employee. Let us begin with so-cial networking sites. Unbeknownst to most people these social networking websites are a real gold-mine when it comes to performing background checks. Almost all the people are either a part of ei-ther MySpace or of Facebook. These two sites are a great option for searching background informa-tion about people. For business purposes, there is LinkedIn.

Finding the person on these sites is really easy. You can use the search feature or you can simply ask them to join your group (naturally, they can be kicked out if found unfit). You would find a whole lot of information about the person, his personal and professional history on these sites etc.

One more important part of employment background screening is checking the criminal history of the person you are about to employ. Now most of the people think that this is a tedious job. Actually it is not tedious at all and you would not really want a person in your company who has been convicted for assault and battery on his previous employer. The federal government has made most of the in-formation in this regard, available online freely and to all the people.

Then, comes the part where you have to do health screening. Narcotic drugs are a real bane of the company and even if a single one of your people is addicted to these things, it would not be long be-fore other people fall prey to it as well. You must be really careful in this regard. Now unless you have a job which requires physically stressful work, getting health screening done is a rather expensive thing. Most employees would be averse to these tests and they are just impractical.

You can ask the prospective employee to undergo a drug screening and submit a certificate that he is cleared of such things. Make it look like a formality but a formality with huge implications. You can always insert the clause that employer reserves the right to sack the employee should he fails drug screening.

Employment background screening might look like an expensive luxury, the fact however is that in modern times, it is a bare necessity.
